Mother Of Rashida Jones And Star Of The Mod Squad Peggy Lipton Passes Away At 72-Years-Old - kkccb.net

According to a report from NBC News, Peggy Lipton from The Mod Squad as well as Twin Peaks died at the age of 72-years-old following a battle with cancer. She was the mother of fellow actress, Rashida Jones, the daughter of legendary music producer, Quincy Jones.

Diagnosed with colon cancer 15 years ago in 2004, Rashida and Kidada Jones revealed the news in a statement. From the period of 1968 until 1973, Lipton starred in the series, The Mod Squad, and was given a Golden Globe as well as four Emmy nominations for playing Julie Barnes.

Lipton became somewhat of a fashion icon for her outfits on the series, many of which featured the “hippy” style of the day. The series had three undercover cops, one blonde, one white, and one black, as the marketing campaign once stated.

The Mod Squad was one of the first productions to feature a multi-racial cast as well as the growth of the “hippy” counter-culture movement which saw the beginning of things like the Woodstock festival in 1969, which inevitably spawned two sequels later on.

Following a long hiatus in which she raised two daughters, she came back to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, a show which recently earned a revival following years of enjoying cult-classic status. She also had roles in Crash, Alias, The Postman, A Dog’s Purpose, as well as Claws.

Moreover, when The Mod Squad film came out in 1999, Lipton appeared in it yet again for a brief cameo. Moreover, she released a self-titled album and made a hit in 1970 with her cover of the classic tune, “Wear Your Love Like Heaven.”

In her 2006 book, Breathing Out, she stated that she was abused as a child by an uncle and also went through several abusive relationships. At one point in her life, she was linked to stars like Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Junior, and Paul McCartney.

Lipton was born in New York City and began her career as a model when she was 15-years-old. Four years later, she appeared in The Virginia, Bewitched, as well as The John Forsythe Show. She married the musician, Quincy Jones, in 1974, causing controversy due to it being interracial.
